Specialty Wines
Here at Terrell House Cellars, we grow the following varieties of grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. We also purchase from other local vineyards the following varieties: Gamay, Foch and Gewurtztraminer. We have just added another section to our vineyard, and it includes our own Gamay and Marechal Foch wines. Each of these varieties can be purchased to vint with us, or at your home.
Here is a brief description of each of our wine varieties:
Cabernet Sauvingnon: This classic and robust red variety produces an aromatic, deep ruby red wine with bouquet and flavours of black currant, spice and plum. Impress your guests with beef tenderloin or lamb matched with this traditional varietal.
Cabernet Franc: Is a fruitier red relative of Cabernet Sauvignon, less herbaceous and with less tannin. Aromas of dark cherry and raspberry, followed by flavours of chocolate and stewed plums. Excellent with stronger vegetables, red meats and game.
Chardonnay: A classic single varietal with deep straw yellow colour, a fruit-forward bouquet and a balancing touch of oak. Flavours of crisp, green apple and tropical fruit dominate the palate. Enjoy with stuffed turkey and roasted chicken.
Merlot: The popular Merlot grape produces an exceptionally soft, low tannin red wine rich in flavours of strawberry, plum and spice. Partners well with lamb chops and beef stews.
Pinot Gris: A majestically soft, dry white wine that is low in acid with slight peach flavours.
Pinot Noir: An elegant red wine with ripe red berry flavours, particularly cherries and strawberries. A medium-bodied, easy drinking wine best enjoyed with gourmet pizzas, mushroom based dishes or as a sipping wine.
Gewurztraminer: A distinctive and exotic wine with an intriguing floral bouquet. An off dry white wine with flavours of lychee nut and grapefruit. This wine is superb along side spicy dishes such as a chicken curry.
Gamay: Medium bodied, fruit forward red wine. Cherries and white pepper are predominant throughout, while the palate contains moderate, well-balanced tannins. Excellent with roast pork or grilled duck.
Marechal Foch: Dark ruby colour, with a hint of smokey black currant and cherry aromas with underlying charred buckwheat flavours and minimum tannin levels. A nice red wine for sipping, or serve with steak, grilled burger, or sharp cheddars.
